Holmden Hill Haven's "Mirage"- Silver Dove Tortoiseshell and White (Banded) Longhaired Syrian Hamster

Mirage was a real surprise for me. I wasn't planning on keeping her but the pet store wasn't interested in taking her. You see as a pup she appeared to be a Red Eyed White though I could see a band that was barely visible. She had three "Red Eyed White Satin" sisters that the pet store did take since they were satin. I held on to her long enough for me to decide to keep her and I'm so glad I did! It turns out that she is a Silver Dove Tortoiseshell and White! It didn't even dawn on my that her father doesn't carry cream so there was no way she could have been a Red Eyed Ivory. I have had Heterozygous Silver Doves before and they were visible from the start. I don't know why her coloring didn't appear until she was older. In fact, her color wasn't obvious until I weaned her first litter. It was such a great surprise and I renamed her to "Mirage". She is now one of my favorite hamsters.
